Understanding Gameboy Issues

Soft volume?

Your Gameboy definitely sounds softer than how it did 20 years ago. This is due to failing capacitors and speakers. Capacitors are electrical components which help to store energy. Due to the nature of such capacitors used in Gameboy devices, they run dry after about 10-20 years, affecting aspects such as sound, power and display.

Think your volume is okay?

We always recommend replacing the capacitor, regardless if you think the soft volume is tolerable. Capacitors have a lifespan of about 10-20 years, which is well beyond the age of Gameboys. If not attended to, these capacitors may leak and cause irreversible corrosive damage to the motherboard, rendering your device non-functional. By replacing your capacitors, you not only increase the volume of your sound, allowing you to better enjoy your games, but also help to extend the lifespan on your treasured device for another 10-20 years.
